Please join the Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky Institute and the Catholic Teachers Guild of Toronto for a presentation with Fr. Michael Bombak on the Jesus Prayer in the classoom: This talk, cosponsored with the Catholic Teachers Guild of Toronto will provide a brief introduction to the Eastern Christian tradition of Hesychasm (stillness) focusing on the practice of the Jesus Prayer. It will make the case that Hesychasm, far from being an isolated practice, provides an important context for life-long spiritual and professional learning. Through his experience as a priest and a classroom teacher, Fr. Michael will share how the Jesus Prayer is an effective practice in the spiritual life of the teacher and how it can be taught practically within the classroom. His presentation will touch on topics of intellectual discipline and distraction, watchfulness of thoughts and establishing a Christocentric Catholic classroom and teaching practice. Fr. Michael is the Chaplain and Programming Coordinator of the Sheptytsky Institute of Eastern Christian Studies at the University at St. Michael's College, UofT, and the founder of the Jesus Prayer 33 Challenge. He is currently at Doctoral (DMin) Student with St. Michael's College. For more information contact Natalie at: Natalie.Urbanc@tcdsb.org or Fr. Michael at: michael.bombak@utoronto.cat
